Anemia During Pregnancy

You Are Here: Home / Anemia During Pregnancy

Anemia or a low blood count during pregnancy is normal and very common. Normal anemia during pregnancy is called “physiological anemia.” I will check your blood count twice during pregnancy (at your first visit and again at 7 months).

As stated previously, a mild anemia is normal. Your prenatal vitamin contains iron and is usually sufficient to maintain your iron stores. However, if you Hemoglobin level falls below 10 mg/dl, I will recommend you take an iron supplement.
